Edge Of P-Morrow
Whattup extremely generous present givers,
Woah haha September 18! What an interesting day for my birthday UHHHHH I mean P-day to fall on hahaha! I sure hope nobody sends me money as a birthday present so that I can afford to go to college!
P-day 1: P-day
So last P-day was awesome. Our D&D campaign went completely insane as literally everything that could have gone wrong went wrong and we desperately attempt to escape prison with only minor casualties. And then after P-day we have a family home evening with members which included delicious pizza. So, basically a perfect day.
P- day 2 and 3: Tuesday and Wednesday
The days after P-day, we had a bunch of meetings and our weekly planning, which significantly reduced our actual 'sweat' working hours. Also we got trapped in like 3 hour long lessons- you guys cannot even fathom the length of time that an elderly brazilian can speak without even the slightest chance to get a word in. So relatively little work was accomplished, but it was only the first two days of the week, so there was still hope.
P-day 4: Thursday
Thursday we had interviews with our President. The very first two words out of his mouth were "well, trainer". He then clarified that the next transfer isn't completely certain yet so I might not actually train and I was like "Pres sometimes I'm barely holding it together just being senior comp please think carefully before you put me with a mute gringo to lead around by the hand but 1 Nephi 3:7 so actually just do whatever you are inspired to do" and then he was like "ok Elder" and then we spent the whole rest of the time talking about training. So we'll see.
But anyways after the interviews we had our phone inspection which took forever (my google drive is obsessively organized into like 3,000 folders and each one takes like 10 and a half seconds to load due to my absolute garbage phone >:) and then we had... some kind of other thing we had to wait for? I don't actually remember what it was but we basically sat around talking with the mission president's wife and the sisters in the other half of Itapicerica for like an hour which was fun. Then we claimed our office-sent frying pan and laundry rack and voyaged back home.
So, once again, an activity during the day cut out like most of our actual work time. Its ok though because we still have the rest of the week to actually work and surely nothing will-
P-day 5: The Cheese Incident
So on Friday my comp literally died and we spent the whole day in our house. I don't think I've mentioned this but my comp has lactose intolerance. This would normally be repugnant to my Wisconsin heritage, but he loves cheese and so he just takes this medication whenever he wants to eat lactosey food and we're chilling. But apparently he literally overloaded his medication that day by eating so much pizza and so he spent the whole rest of the day vomiting and recovering lol.
Yet one more day lost, but surely Saturday will be awesome!
P-day 6: The zone activity incident
So we do our planning in the morning Saturday and we have a day stuffed to the brim with lessons. We're gonna visit literally everyone we're teaching, invite everyone to church, and it's gonna be awesome!
Then we are informed of an activity we're going to hold as a zone. It's some kind of charity event thing and everybody has to come. Well its ok we'll still have some time after lunch-
Our lunch appointment didn't start making lunch until we arrived. Well we'll still have the time after the activity-
The activity runs super late. We get a car ride back but then we have a meeting with the ward council to make the mission plan for the ward.
We did not have a single lesson that day.
P-day 7: how???
On Sunday, 4 people showed up in Sacrament meeting, 2 of whom agreed to be baptized, and one of whom received like the craziest, warmest welcome I've ever seen for an investigator and is practically already a part of the ward after 1 sunday. Literally just need a chance to explain what the Book of Mormon is and rip the invite to him and he's practically already in the water.
Now I'm a big fan of rationalizing and condensing my weekly experiences into little lessons, drawing meaning from the experiences. But if I had to do that with this week, it would be like... the opposite of last week? “Fate is not fair, and it is also not just. Not working is ok because you'll still achieve whatever you want.” That's like, the worst inspirational quote ever, and as a Cradle loyalist I can't possibly support such blasphemous ideas. So I guess the real lesson this week is that this work is truly in the hands of Christ. We really did do our best, but our best was so little that it could not rationally produce like, any result. But that doesn't actually matter- Christ knows when we need tender mercies and also when we maybe need to be pushed down a notch on the pride thermometer. So all we can do is keep obediently and diligently doing our best, and the rest? Well, thankfully, all that is in the hands of somebody way smarter than I am.
Uh oh time loop, back to the beginning
And we return to the actual P-day. The Fellowship of the Nerds plans on celebrating this very normal day with no kind of unusual holiday whatsoever by entering into the world of tiny figurines and dice to see if we all die or if we manage to escape with our lives (and hopefully a lot of imaginary treasure). Also we have yet another family home evening planned with more pizza
This week should be more of an actual week? I hope so at least. Lo-key like walking. Also need something to show to my mute gringo son when he arrives.
God is Good,
Elder Ebbert
